"No one need know." With those words, David persuaded Bathsheba to betray her GOD, her husband, to commit adultery, and to spoil his family, his leadership, and his future as King of Israel. It seemed more impactful as i watched it on T.V. than it does each time i read that account of his fall, his frailty, his humanity.  Whether or not he said those words to Bathsheba, since they aren't recorded in the Bible, doesn't really matter to us today. The event did happen, Bathsheba became pregnant. Her husband was murdered. David was judged by God. The prophet Nathan came and tore his heart apart.

Just a few thoughts about this event for my blog, and for you to consider. David paid dearly for his sin but needed SOMEONE ELSE to deal with them. In Psalms 51:4, he reminds us that all sin is against GOD. In the genealogy of Jesus, recorded in Matthew, we see this confession about David, the ancestor of Jesus: "David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife…" So that means that Jesus really can understand our sins, our families, and our weaknesses, since he too had family stupidity to deal with in his ancestors. If you are "in Christ" then you are forgiven! I believe that, I live that, and I hang on to that promise. I pray you do as well.

Do you have a momentary weakness, a sin, or perhaps a glaring lack of judgement in your past, that you are ashamed to admit happened? Don't allow it to make you feel worthless! If you are a believer, obedient to HIS commands, you are forgiven by the death of Christ!

Psalms 51:10-12 continues with a side of David that I want to have you think about as you think about his sin. Here are some of the words that He shares with us:

"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me."

I know he was weak, and that his judgement in this situation caused his family to implode, but honestly, I love David, as he looked forward to the one who would "deliver him from the valley of the shadow of Death." Real life this month is a celebration of the life we have in Jesus because HE died for our sins. Each Sunday is Resurrection Sunday because HE did for us what we couldn't do. GOD Bless us tonight!
